Indications

Systaflam Gel is used for: Local symptomatic relief of, pain and inflammation, occurring due to, musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), sprains, strains, bruises, osteoarthritis of peripheral joints, tenosynovitis, myositis, bursitis, sports injuries, low back pain, localized form of soft tissue rheumatism, traumatic inflammation of tendons, muscles & joints. Mild osteoarthritis, periarthropathy, frozen shoulder, cervical spondylitis

Adult Dose

Topical Adult Approximately one-inch band of gel should be applied to the affected site 3-4 times daily with rubbing till the film disappears.

Child Dose

Safety and effectiveness of Gel in children below 14 years of age have not been established.

Contra Indications

Known hypersensitivity to any part of the preparation.

Precautions

For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. Do not apply on damaged skin. Wash hands after use; avoid contact w/ eyes & mucous tunics. Do not apply on big areas of the body, or use for a long time. Discontinue the treatment if a skin rash develops after applying this product. Avoid showering/bathing for at least 1 hour after the application. Avoid wearing of clothing or gloves for at least 10 minutes after applying the gel. Do not apply gel to open skin injuries/wounds, irritated skin, infections, skin abrasions. Avoid contact of gel with eyes and mucous membranes. Do not apply external heat and/or occlusive dressings to treated joints. Avoid exposure of the treated joint(s) to natural or artificial sunlight.

Pregnancy-Lactation

The safety of this Gel has not been established during pregnancy. There are no well-controlled studies of diclofenac in pregnant women.

Interactions

Since systemic absorption of diclofenac from topical application of the gel is very low, drug interactions are very unlikely.

Adverse Effects

Side effects of Diclofenac Diethylamine + Methyl Salicylate + Menthol + Linseed Oil Topical : Usually well tolerated. Extremely low frequency of hypersensitivity reactions. Skin irritation, eg, skin rash, oedema, wheals, papules, scutes, reddening, burning, prickling, itch at the application site may occur.

Mechanism of Action

Diclofenac Diethylamine is systemically absorbed through the skin; it inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase, thus reducing the formation of PGE2. Moreover, it also increases the uptake of Arachidonic acid into the cellular pool. Menthol is a vasodilator. It dilates the blood vessels, produces a feeling of coolness and produces analgesia. Methyl salicylate is a known anti-inflammatory agent. Linseed oil is alfalinoleic acid, which has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant actions, improves blood circulation at place of application.
