Indications
Salicare Cream is used for:
Acne, Hyperkeratotic and scaling skin conditions
Adult Dose
Topical/Cutaneous
Acne
Cream
Adult: Apply thinly to the affected area 1-3 times daily, reduce to once daily or every other day if dryness or peeling occurs.
Lotion
Adult: Apply enough medicine to cover the affected area once daily in 1st week then 2 to 3 times daily from 2nd week and rub gently. After 3-5 minutes rinse face with cool water.
Hyperkeratotic and scaling skin conditions
Adult: Apply to the affected area of the skin and/or scalp 3-4 times daily.

Contra Indications
Hypersensitivity. Use on moles, birthmarks and unusual warts w/ growing hair or warts on the face.
Precautions
Not for prolonged use in high concentrations and on large areas of the body. Impaired peripheral circulation or diabetes. Avoid broken skin, mouth, eyes, mucous membranes and anogenital region.

Increased risk of skin dryness and irritation w/ other topical acne preparations.
Adverse Effects
Side effects of Salicylic acid 2% Topical :
Irritation, sensitivity, excessive drying; systemic effects on prolonged use.
Mechanism of Action
Salicylic acid has a potent keratolytic action and a slight antiseptic action when applied topically. It softens and destroys the stratum corneum by increasing endogenous hydration which causes the horny layer of the skin to swell, soften, and then desquamate. At high concentrations, salicylic acid has a caustic effect. It also possesses weak antifungal and antibacterial activity.
