Indications

Kinate Tablet is used for: Disorders associated with reduced gastrointestinal motility

Adult Dose

Oral Disorders associated with reduced gastrointestinal motility Adult: For the management of gastrointestinal symptoms including the feeling of swollen abdomen, early satiety, postprandial fullness, upper abdominal pain or discomfort, nausea and vomiting, anorexia, and heartburn; non-ulcer dyspepsia: 50 mg tid. May reduce dose depending on the patient's age and symptoms.

This medicine is generally recommended to be taken before meals.

Contra Indications

Conditions when increased gastrointestinal motility may be harmful (e.g. gastrointestinal haemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation).

Precautions

Elderly. Pregnancy and lactation.

Pregnancy-Lactation

Due to lack of safety data, Itopride should not be used during pregnancy or in women suspected with pregnancy until and unless the benefits outweigh the risks.

Interactions

May reduce activity with anticholinergic agents.

Adverse Effects

Side effects of Itopride Hydrochloride : Significant: May cause cholinergic effects. Gastrointestinal disorders: Abdominal pain, diarrhoea, salivary hypersecretion. Investigations: Increased ALT, decreased WBC count. Nervous system disorders: Dizziness, headache. Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Rash.

Mechanism of Action

Itopride is a gastroprokinetic agent. It increases acetylcholine concentrations by antagonising dopamine D2 receptors and inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, thereby promoting gastrointestinal motility.
