Indications
Ferrokid Syrup is used for:
Iron-deficiency anaemia
Adult Dose
Adults:
5 mL 3 times a day, increased to 10 mL 3 times a day, dose to be increased gradually
Child Dose
Children/Infants:
3-6 mg/kg elemental iron daily divided into 2-3 doses.
6-24 months ~12.5 mg/day;
2-5 years ~20-30 mg/day;
6-11 years ~30-60 mg/day.
Child 1–11 months: Up to 2.5 mL twice daily, smaller doses to be used initially
Child 1–4 years: 2.5 mL 3 times a day
Child 5–11 years: 5 mL 3 times a day
Child 12–17 years: 5 mL 3 times a day, increased to 10 mL 3 times a day, dose to be increased gradually

Administration
Contra Indications
Hypersensitivity to active substance/excipients; iron‐overload states (haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis); repeated blood transfusions.
Precautions
In patients with haemolytic anaemia or disorders of iron‐absorption/storage.
Iron preparations may colour stools black and may interfere with occult blood testing.
Avoid concurrent administration with milk/dairy products or other inhibitors of iron absorption.
Pregnancy-Lactation
Pregnancy and Lactation: No specific adverse events reported in pregnancy/lactation in certain datasets; however, use as per iron?deficiency status.
Interactions
Iron absorption reduced by antacids, calcium, magnesium, zinc, tetracyclines, bisphosphonates, dairy, tea, eggs.
Iron may reduce absorption of penicillamine, mycophenolate, fluoroquinolones, levodopa/carbidopa, bisphosphonates.
Adverse Effects
Side effects of Sodium Feredetate Trihydrate :
Common: gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, flatulence). Rare: hypersensitivity (rash, swelling).
Mechanism of Action
Provides a bioavailable iron source—the iron is chelated with EDTA to enhance solubility and absorption even in presence of dietary inhibitors. Once absorbed, iron is incorporated into haemoglobin and stored as ferritin/haemosiderin.
